LG G5 Teaser Confirms New Flagship Will Feature Always-On Display

LG G5 Always On

A post on LG Mobile's Facebook page included a GIF that teased an always-on display for the LG G5. The feature will also be found in Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S7, but there's a twist in LG's version.(Photo : LG Mobile | Facebook)

LG's upcoming flagship smartphone, the LG G5, has been filling up the rumor mill recently, with the latest news on the device including LG's plan to unveil it on Feb. 21 before the 2016 Mobile World Congress.

LG's chosen date is a bold statement for the company, as Samsung will also be unveiling its next flagship device, the Galaxy S7, on that day.

On its official Facebook page, the company continued the trickle of information regarding the smartphone with a teaser that shows the LG G5 as having an always-on display.

The teaser is in the form of a GIF, with several smartphones first shown having their displays turned off. The GIF then cuts to an outline of another smartphone, with text reading "Always On" and the logos of LG and the LG G5 appearing right after.

"Never go asleep while others do," the LG Mobile Facebook page also wrote on the post that included the GIF.

A report by Android Authority digs deeper into the LG G5's Always On feature, which will also be found in Samsung's Galaxy S7.

According to the report, the series of notification icons that can be seen in the GIF on the screen of the LG G5 are the same ones that can be seen in the second screen of the LG V10.

Android Authority claims that the screen of the LG G5 will literally always be on, not just occasionally visible such as for the Nexus 6P and the Moto X. In addition, it will not need any gestures to be made by the user, similar to what was required for past LG devices.

This is because the Always On display of the LG G5 is not an AMOLED display, such as that in the Galaxy S7, but rather a full-screen version of the second screen of the LG V10. This means that the entire screen of the LG G5 could be featuring the customization options and colors found on the LG V10's LCD second screen.

Most users would instantly think, upon being informed of an always on screen, of how long the device's battery would last. It will indeed be something to look forward to in LG's unveiling of the LG G5, as it is interesting to find out how LG would handle the load on the smartphone's battery due to the feature.
