HTC to Launch Two New Smartphones: HTC 10 and 10 Lifestyle

While the HTC 10 feature LTE Cat.9 support (maximum download speeds up to 450Mbps), the HTC 10 Lifestyle comes with LTE Cat.6 support (maximum supported download speeds up to 300Mbps). There's also said to be a 12-megapixel "Ultra Pixel" camera with optical image stabilization and laser autofocus.

There is also a 3000 mAh battery with Quick Charge, this can charge the handset to 50% in 30 minutes, the device will also come with Android Marshmallow.

HTC is gearing up to launch its next flagship smartphone, the HTC 10, this week but as usual, all of the details have leaked beforehand.

Camera: According to the company the HTC 10 will come with world-class front and back cameras. Users can pick 32GB or 64GB of flash storage, and the microSD slot can accept up to 2TB of extra storage. The three colors (gold, white and black) are also confirmed.

Judging by the leaked video, the HTC 10 will be fitted with a USB-C port, the latest standard in USB technology. As a result, the general build on offer is one which not only looks good, but feels good and is also highly durable with the HTC 10 having undergone copious amounts of durability testing prior to its release.

Rumoured specs suggest the HTC 10 will have a Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4GB of RAM - just like Samsung's snappy Galaxy S7.

Six more wallpapers have made their way to the internet courtesy of LlabTooFeR which are reportedly going to be found on HTC's upcoming 10 smartphone and Sense 8.0 UI. That's a rare feature for the front camera and might help make for sharper selfies.

The HTC 10 smartphone was announced Tuesday as the latest flagship by the Taiwanese manufacturer. But HTC hasn't gone for wholesale changes as you can see. India and a few other countries will get the Lifestyle, but we're still waiting for HTC to reveal information on price and availability. It was rumored at one point that perhaps the company will release two variants of its next flagship which will be powered by different processors.

Leaked Pictures Showing HTC Desire 830 Surface

The original HTC Desire was released a little over six years ago in March 2010. This was HTC's flagship Android-powered smartphone, powered by Android 2.1 Eclair running under HTC Sense and a 1 GHz processor paired up with 512 MB of RAM. Early models used an AMOLED panel although this was swiftly swapped out the AMOLED for a SLCD component owing to supply shortages. HTC followed up the original Desire with the Desire HD, which offered a larger screen and higher performance camera, then in 2011 released the Desire S, which was a decidedly mid-range model as for 2011, HTC released the Sensation range of handsets as the new flagship.

The Desire branding resurfaced a little later and from 2012, HTC released a range of devices wearing the badge but as a mix of low and mid-range devices. These devices includes smartphones such as the Desire C, a follow-up to the HTC Wildfire and Wildfire S, and a number of numbered Desire handsets. In 2013, following the HTC One M7, we saw a number of Desire-named smartphones offering a selection of features from the flagship, such as BoomSound, all running a version of HTC Sense. This has continued into 2016 – some of HTC's more recent Desire-named devices are offered in two flavours, with one using a Qualcomm Snapdragon System-on-Chip and other models, often with the letter "G" behind the number, using a MediaTek System-on-Chip. We have today seen Steve Hemmerstoffer leak a few images of the next model in the Desire family via Twitter. The new device, set to be the Desire 830, looks set to be another mid-range HTC Desire phablet handset.

Unfortunately, we do not have very much information to go by although one of the pictures of the purported Desire 830 shows a screen image from CPU-Z. This shows that the device has 32 GB of internal storage, 3 GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch, 1080p display. The processor type and detail is listed as "unknown." It looks as though the device comes with BoomSound, a front facing LED and HTC Sense. It's impossible to tell if HTC have given the Desire 830 a MicroUSB or USB Type-C charger port, but we can see a prominent camera bump on the back corner. We don't have a likely release date, market or regional availability or prices. This is a developing story and should HTC be preparing the handset, we will let you know.

HTC 10 Becomes the Taiwanese Smartphone Maker’s Perfect Comeback Story!

The HTC 10, the latest flagship smartphone of the Taiwanese smartphone maker, has become the company's perfect comeback story following the debacle that was the HTC One M9 last year.

After rolling out the best VR headset there is in the market in HTC Vive early this year, the Taiwanese tech giant put a punctuation mark on its road to redemption with the successful release of the HTC 10 on April 12 to very warm market reception.

Amid the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, the Samsung Galaxy S7, and the Galaxy S7 Edge, HTC has placed a legitimate contender for the 'smartphone of the year' award with the extremely powerful and smooth-handling HTC 10, notes Gizmag.

The closest competition of the HTC 10 for the plum is perhaps the Galaxy S7 which has other special features that the former does not have including water resistance, wireless charging, and always-on display.

However, the HTC 10 more than made up for those 'shortcomings' with its great attention to detail and subtle intangibles including great audio quality, excellent display brightness and white balances, near-stock Marshmallow software, and a design focus that takes no shortcuts.

Undoubtedly, the HTC is a premium smartphone from top to bottom adding a genuine respect for customer taste, and a bullheaded determination to make refined quality and make the handset quite a pleasure to use.

A fresh start

With the disappointment of its much-maligned HTC One M9 when it made it to the retail markets in April of last year, HTC 10, which was previously rumored to be called as HTC One M10, is the Taiwanese smartphone maker's fresh start in the business.

Coming off from a string of years of not-so-good smartphones, it seems that HTC made a concerted effort to turn things around anchored most likely on a renewed vision and outlook.

Although most critics in the business believe that HTC is now a VR company which makes smartphones, it is still important for the Taiwanese tech giant to flex its muscles in the smartphone market where it was regarded as the maker of the best handsets in the world, notes Droid Life.

True enough, the HTC 10 is a really good smartphone. It does not buck that innovation slowdown trend nor does it try to reinvent the smartphone. More importantly, the HTC 10 signifies the comeback of one of the pioneering, most detail-driven and sophisticated smartphone companies there is in the market.

For the first time in about two or three years, HTC has come up with a smartphone in HTC 10 that could easily be considered as the best of the year in a market that is too often dominated by Apple and Samsung.

People all over the world also loves going for the underdog. And the HTC 10 has simply become the industry's perfect underdog comeback story.

Exudes great intangibles

The last time that HTC made a smartphone almost this great was way back in 2013 when it launched the HTC One M7 which exuded hard-to-define intangibles.

The HTC 10 features a beautiful aluminum unibody design with chamfered edge running around its backside. It also has cleaner front-side that loses the old forward-spacing speakers in exchange for capacitive buttons including the fingerprint sensor.

The current flagship smartphone of the Taiwanese handset maker also has one of the best smartphone cameras that can be found among smartphones of today. It is actually better than that of the Galaxy S7 and the iPhone 6S, especially under very low lighting.

htc 10

The smartphone also has excellent hi-res audio support with its audiophile-friendly PSB M4U 2 and noise-cancelling champ Bose QC20 earbuds.

The HTC 10 also provides support for Android's new adoptable storage. It also has a microSD slot that provides an option of formatting the card so that the phone does not differentiate it with the internal storage, a feature which cannot be done with the Galaxy S7 or on the LG G5.

Five Things I Love About The Galaxy S7 & S7 edge

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are easy to hold up on paper as the best smartphones of 2016 - mostly because they'll likely be the best-selling models (well, next to the iPhone). But what about them makes them actually worth owning? Is Samsung's latest smartphone duo basically just a gussied-up retread of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge+, or is there more to it than that? I think there is. Here are five things I love about the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. (Don't forget to check out our full review right here.)

One phone, two sizes

So often we are asked to either buy a "mainstream" Android smartphone or wait for the separate "phablet" launches of devices that often occur later in the year. There's no big HTC 10 or LG G5 - those are one-size-fits-all devices. Samsung launched the S7 and S7 edge in two sizes: one the 5" (roughly) smartphone that embodies the typical flagship device of the last two years. But they also launched the 5.5" S7 edge with a curved display panel for those who wanted a bigger screen and battery. The battery gets a 600mAh boost to a total capacity of 3600mAh, and that definitely makes a difference in my experience.

nexus2cee_DSC01950

Samsung may have taken a bit of flak for following the "Apple formula" of iPhone / iPhone Plus, but Apple basically took that formula from other, smaller manufacturers who have been doing similar size-staggered smartphone launches for years.

For those who loved the Galaxy Note line but never really used the stylus, the S7 edge provides the large screen real estate of that device without the wait. The Note doesn't usually launch until many months after the Galaxy S flagship, so if you want a big-screen, premium Samsung device, 2016 is the first year Samsung is giving you an option quite so early. The S7 edge is definitely my favorite of the two, for its larger - and more striking - display, and superior battery life.

Samsung Pay

I don't use it often, but I'm glad to have it when I do. Samsung Pay is the only mobile payment solution that can truly replace your credit card in a majority of situations. While not suited for every payment requiring a credit card, here in the US, Samsung Pay basically works anywhere you can non-awkwardly reach for the magstripe reader on the point-of-sale machine.

nexus2cee_DSC01941

Your bank does have to support it, but major credit card issuers are generally well-represented on Samsung Pay in the US, and it really is crazy simple to use. You can actually set up Samsung Pay to sit on your homescreen or lockscreen at all times, reach to launch at a moment's notice, just by pulling up from the bottom of the screen. You then can use your S7 or S7 edge's built-in fingerprint scanner to authenticate use of the card and activate "payment mode," at which point you simply hold the phone against the credit card reader where the magstripe scanner sits.

Samsung Pay will also work with Android Pay and Apple Pay-enabled NFC readers if the magstripe doesn't work, or if you prefer to pay using NFC. You're getting the best of both worlds here - Samsung Pay really is a pretty awesome feature. Samsung also wants to grow Pay to be used for storing membership cards and loyalty points, and given the feature's very warm reception, I wouldn't be surprised if they start to make headway there.

You can find the full list of supported Samsung Pay banks and card issuers for the US here.

The screen(s)

Samsung makes the best display panels in the smartphone business, full stop. Samsung's Super AMOLED panels have the deepest blacks (great for watching TV/movies and gaming), great outdoor visibility, the best color reproduction (in "basic" mode - more on that in a second), and insanely good viewing angles. Issues around Super AMOLED power consumption have largely been resolved, as the S7 and S7 edge have easily boasted the best battery life among flagship smartphones this year. And like any modern high-end smartphone, they offer 2K resolution.

nexus2cee_DSC01908

What makes Samsung's screens great in particular for photography is that they can be set to an extremely accurate "basic" mode in the settings. If you open the settings apps, under display there is a section called "screen mode," which offers you four options: basic, AMOLED photo, AMOLED cinema, and adaptive display.

Adaptive display is the default mode, and it will boost or lower contrast in certain applications versus others. For example, in the camera app, it will heavily boost contrast and brightness so that the camera viewfinder is easier to see in bright sunlight. This mode is probably the most desirable mode for most people, as it makes colors extremely vivid, increases effective contrast (making the display easier to see in bright conditions), and provides the most striking images.

nexus2cee_DSC01915

But if you switch into basic mode, the panel becomes extremely "accurate." This means that photos, video, and other content all appear very close to their "real" colors, as opposed to an interpretation of those colors that Samsung's software thinks is most visually pleasing. This can be great for reviewing photos or video your smartphone camera has taken, because you can get a much better sense of how that photo or video will look on your PC, other people's smartphones, and televisions, as opposed to just how it looks on your own phone's screen with its particular color calibration. I also personally find the warmer whites of the basic display mode are much easier on my eyes when using the phone at night or in the dark, whereas the adaptive mode tends to be a bit more uncomfortable because the white point is bluer. It's great having these options.

The camera is very, very fast

Samsung's camera on the S7 and S7 edge starts up fast and takes pictures even faster - this is probably the fastest smartphone camera out there right now. And while it may not have the fastest startup time of any smartphone camera ever, the speed which with it captures images is hard to beat. Many smartphones today make aggressive use of HDR features that enhance the contrast and dynamic range of the photos we take, especially when lighting is very dark or very bright (or both) in a scene. These HDR modes are great for turning what might otherwise be washed-out or murky images into vivid, beautiful photos. But they usually come at the cost of time - the Nexus 6P, for example, takes quite a while to do an HDR capture, and this can slow you down when taking subsequent photos.

nexus2cee_20160312_114838

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge capture HDR photos extremely quickly, thanks to what is likely the same hardware HDR processing Samsung used in the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge (and Note 5 / S6 edge+) last year. Combined with a lens and sensor that are designed to pick up even more light in the dark, the S7 and S7 edge are easily the most usable smartphone cameras I've ever come across.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge can manage to get a decent image in almost any lighting condition, and the speed with which images are captured means less blur, fewer missed moments, and a less frustrating smartphone camera experience overall.

The battery life rocks

Here in America, we have a slightly different version of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge than you'd get almost anywhere else in the world - it uses a different processor (CPU) called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. Everywhere else in the world, basically, the S7 and S7 edge use Samsung's Exynos 8890 processor.

nexus2cee_DSC01929 (1)

The reason I point this out is a difference in battery life. Sadly, our US versions of the S7 and S7 edge don't get the insane battery life of the international Exynos versions of the phones. But here's the thing: the battery life the US versions do get is still really, really good. My AT&T S7 edge easily gets over five hours, sometimes six, of screen-on time (go to settings -> battery, scroll down, then tap "screen" on the list to see your screen on figure). That's completely nuts compared to the S6 or S6 edge+, both of which barely managed to get me to three hours, maybe four tops, last year. My Nexus 6P gets nowhere close to the S7 edge's figure.

The regular S7 easily gets over four hours of screen on time for me, too, which for a phone of its size is quite good. If you are lucky enough to be in a region with the Exynos versions, some users of the Exynos S7 edge are reporting seven or eight hours of screen-on time in some conditions. That's totally bonkers.

But even with our Snapdragon 820 versions here in America, the battery life improvements over last year's Galaxy phones are huge, and Samsung seems to be leading the pack on this figure overall coming into 2016.

What about you?

What do you love about the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge? Discuss in the comments below. Be on the lookout for our counterpoint post, too, in which I discuss the things I don't love so much about these phones.

Acer Announces Liquid Zest Plus Smartphone

Acer Announces Liquid Zest Plus Smartphone

The Acer Liquid Zest is far from an impressive device judging by the specs we do know, but a low price tag and a massive battery could make it a great choice for budget-minded users who want the best battery life possible. Tri-focus means the snapper relies on all types of AF used today - laser, contrast and phase detection. The smartphone with probably this year's strangest name features a 5.5-inch display and what Acer calls a "tri-focus" camera on the back, which boasts a 13-megapixel shooter.

When I got a chance to go hands-on with the Zest art Acer's press event today (April 21), I found a handset that apes the design on a lot of Acer's other phones.

Case in point: the new Liquid Zest Plus, which sounds more like soap than a smartphone, packs an enormous 5,000mAh battery into a mid-range Android handset priced at less than US$250 (about £175).

Were you aware that Acer made phones? No?

Oukitel has done monster batteries before but never before has it developed a battery this large. So battery fiends, you may just have to keep wishing.

That's noticeably more capacity than flagship smartphones like Samsung's Galaxy S7 (3,000 mAh) and S7 Edge (3,600 mAh), the LG G5 (2,800 mAh), the iPhone 6S Plus (2,750 mAh) and the HTC 10 (3,000 mAh).

Acer also launched a two-in-one Switch Alpha 12 tablet which comes with a free keyboard, the latest 6th Gen Intel Core i5 processor and a new Double LiquidLoop cooling system which maintains the tablet's temperature without using a fan.

McGregor pulled from Nate Diaz fight amid retirement talkThe featherweight champion, 19-3, was withdrawn from the landmark card a few hours after seemingly announcing his retirement . McGregor once notoriously said that he doesn't fight for UFC , he is UFC , so this is consistent with his mindset.

Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) To Launch New Line Of Budget Smartphone On Androids Platform

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has confirmed that it will soon launch two new smartphones that will run on Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s Android OS. The company claims that the devices will have a better price tag compared to the Priv.

Blackberry launched the Priv towards the end of 2015 as its flagship smartphone but sales for the device did not do so well. The firm has not been doing well on the overall sales including its other devices. The company reported that it sold 3.2 million handsets in 2015. It managed to sell only 600,000 units in the fourth quarter of the same fiscal year, thus registering a drop from the 1.3 million handsets that it sold in the fourth quarter of the previous year.

The company announced that it will launch two new handsets later this year, and they will both run on Android OS. Blackberry claims that the Priv did not sell as well as expected because it was steeply priced. The Canadian firm stated that the two handsets will feature a fairer price tag between $300 and $400. The firm's CEO, John Chen revealed that one of the devices will feature a physical QWERTY keypad while the one will have a full-touch display.

Mr. Chen also stated that the decision to launch the two devices was highly influenced by the fact that the Priv did not do so well in terms of sales. Chen had previously pointed out that launching a high-end device was not the wisest decision, and many enterprise customers have commented about the pricing, stating that they prefer a more affordable price. The CEO also states that the company will have to exit from the handset business if it fails to make money out of it.

The CEO also stated that the move with Android OS was good for the customers because they were able to secure the OS through Blackberry's security features. This feature is expected to attract more people to buy the company's handsets. Neil Shah from Counterpoint Research stated that the Blackberry brand is still strong, and its QWERTY keyboard is still attractive in the device market.

Xiaomi Max photo leaked, looks like a bigger variant of Xiaomi Mi 5

By Sambit Satpathy on Apr 21, 2016 at 4:22 PM Email @some_bit comments Tags: xiaomi Xiaomi Max Xiaomi Mi 5 News xiaomi-max-leaked-render

We have already come across reports claiming that Xiaomi is developing a phablet with a 6.4-inch display, called Xiaomi Max. A photo has now surfaced online, which is allegedly the first official render of the upcoming phablet. The device in the photo looks like a larger version of the recently launched flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone.

The Xiaomi Max, as per the leaked render, looks identical to the Mi 5 smartphone. The front and the partially exposed back panel of the upcoming phablet look at the same as the flagship smartphone, GizmoChina reports. It even has a physical home button up front, which no doubt has a fingerprint scanner embedded. The power button and the volume rocker are on the right edge.

One thing you do note is the missing the MI logo at the top-left corner up front. This makes us question the authenticity of the leaked image. Another thing to note is that the leaked render is different from the leaked front panel we came across before. The earlier leak didn't have the home button cutout at the front, and nor did it have the MI logo.

Earlier this month, Xiaomi conducted a poll wherein it asked its fans to come up with a name for its upcoming phablet. The name that was finally chosen was Xiaomi Max. The device is expected to feature a 6.4-inch display with QHD (2560×1440 pixels) resolution, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset.

While details are scarce, Xiaomi is believed to be launching the phablet sometime next month. It could also be priced somewhere close to $500, which roughly translates to Rs 33,000.
