Freedom 251 to iPhone 7: The top 10 smartphones which dominated Google search in India

Global online search giant released the list of top searches for 2016 in order keep people informed about what the trends comprised of in the world. This trending list includes global as well as country-wise rankings. Globally, the augmented reality based game Pokemon Go was the most search thing and was followed by Apple's latest flagship product, the iPhone 7. When it comes to smartphones, the list ranges from the cheapest smartphone Freedom 251 to even Google Pixel and that is the same for India. The list of smartphones which made it to the list in India is a little different from the global one. Here is the list of top 10 smartphones which dominated Google search in India:

Freedom 251

The top searched smartphone in India on Google was the Freedom 251 by a company called Ringing Bells a Noida based firm. And it makes total sense. This devices, touted to be the cheapest smartphone ll over the world was announced in February. Freedom 251, according to the name was priced at a nominal amount of Rs 251 and that made it gain immense popularity among Indians. The plan was to roll out thousands of devices by June but Ringing Bells failed to do so which got it into the news headlines yet again. There were several charges against the company including a 'cheque bounce' case.

Recently, it was reported that Ringing Bells had closed its operations, but the company denied such claims and said that it will deliver the rest of the devices to people who had registered for it.

iPhone 7

Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were unveiled by technology giant Apple, and the latest smartphones were made to be available in India from October 7. For the first time, Apple announced the official release date and the launch price of iPhone 7 for India during its event. The 32 GB base variant of iPhone 7 was priced at Rs 60,000. Apple managed to reach among the top searches owing to the leaks and rumours surrounding the much-anticipated smartphone. Apple's devices witnessed the riddance of the 3.5mm headphone jack and also the introduction of two other colour devices - Jet Black and Matte Black.

Redmi note 3

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, a hugely popular device, had reported that it sold over 2.3 million units in India in 6 months since its launch in India in March. The 16GB version of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is available in India priced at Rs 9,999 and the 32GB version at Rs 11,999. A large 4,050 mAh battery (Weight -21g), 5.5-inch full HD display, metal unibody design, Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 2GB RAM, fingerprint sensor (unlocks in just 0.3s), 16MP camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF).

Lenovo k4 Note

Lenovo, early this year in January had announced a new smartphone Vibe K4 Note which was equipped with its latest TheaterMax feature, which was basically a Virtual Reality technology, and was priced at Rs 11,999. Th company announced it through a flash sale on e-commerce website Amazon.in where it included the VR Headset at Rs 12,499. The K4 Note features a 5.5-inch display, 3GB RAM, octa-core processor, 16GB internal memory (expandable up to 128 GB), twin front ported stereo speakers enabled by Dolby Atmos, 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera and 3,300 mAh battery.

Samsung j7

Samsung Galaxy J7 also made it to the list of most searched smartphone globally, in 2016. The device was launched in April and has a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display. Galaxy J7 is powered by an Octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor/ Exynos 7870 processor and comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. The J7 smartphone consists of a 13MP rear camera along with a 5MP shooter for selfies.

Moto G4

The smartphone was available in India from July and was unveiled along with Moto G4 Plus, which is a slightly high-end variant of Moto G4 series. Moto G4 16GB variant is priced at Rs 12,499 on Amazon. The phone features a 5.5-inch Full HD display and powered by 1.5 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617. It has 2GB RAM and internal memory of 16GB expandable up to 128GB expandable. The phone features a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera.

One plus 3

OnePlus, a Chinese company made a good noise when it launched its much-awaited flagship smartphone OnePlus 3 in June at a price of Rs 27,999. The device has a 16MP primary camera with high-speed autofocus technology and 8MP front camera. The phone features an optic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with full HD (401 ppi) and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a ceramic-coated fingerprint Scanner. The smartphone had the latest quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and the device is available in 2 colour variants- Graphite and Soft Gold.

iPhone SE

Apple had launched the iPhone SE back in March 2016 as a new hardware variant of the popular 4-inch iPhone 5/5S design. The device featured an advanced A9 chip with 64-bit architecture as fitted on the iPhone 6S/6S Plus and came with an upgraded 12MP primary camera. The smartphone was finally launched in India in April and was priced at Rs 39,000.

Google Pixel

Google has recently been foraying into a lot of different sectors, with an aim to expand its operations, so how could smartphones be far behind. After making Android OS for a long time, Google decided to introduce the new Pixel and Pixel XL flagship smartphones with Made By Google logo in October 2016 and got rid of the previous Nexus lineup.

The highly anticipated phones arrived in India on October 25 and the prices started at Rs 57,000 for the basic 32GB model of Pixel. The phones have a 12.3-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and a selfie camera of 8 megapixels. Powered by the Quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor, the phone features a 4GB RAM and comes with a 5 inch AMOLED display. Meanwhile, the premium model Pixel XL, consists of a 5.5 inch AMOLED display.

Lenovo K5 note

Chinese smartphone giant Lenovo on announced the Vibe K5 Note on August 1, and by August 9 the device became the fastest selling smartphone to reach Rs 100 crore revenue. Lenovo in a statement said that about 30 percent of the K5 Note consumers also opted for the TheaterMax accessories in the inaugural sales. K5 Note got the TheaterMax controller along with the ANTVR glasses. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch full-HD display along with a 178-degree wide viewing angle, 64-bit octa-core 6755 processor clocked at 1.8GHz and is fueled by a 3,500mAh battery.
