LG modular smartphone G5 makes it way to India

LG Electronics finally took the curtains off its 2016 flagship smartphone- LG G5 in the Indian market. Priced at Rs 52,990, the smartphone is available to purchase from e-commerce website Flipkart and retail stores across the country.

LG G5 is the first handset to feature a truly modular design that would allow customers to add/remove various components of the handset to extend its functionality.

The modular ecosystem, which is termed LG friends, comprises of companion devices like LG CAM Plus, LG 360 CAM, Hi-Fi audio module and LG 360 VR.

While there is only one component available for purchase as of now (CAM Plus), the list will soon increase with a Bang & Olufsen Hi-Fi Audio module also in the works.

To sweeten the deal LG is offering a free battery cradle to consumers. Ideally speaking the VR headset would have been something that we would have loved to have along with the smarthone. unlike other VR headsets in the market that requires the smartphon e tucked in as a display unit, the LG VR headset connects with the G5 via a USB cable and projects the VR content on the inbuilt glasses. You can keep the smartphone in your pocket while enjoying the VR content.

Coming on to specifications of the smartphone, LG G5 Sports a 5.3-inch Quad HD display (2560 x 1440 pixels) featuring always-on display technology that allows users to check time, date continuously even when G5 is in sleep mode.

It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded by up to 2TB via microSD card.

The smartphone comes with dual rear cameras -a 16MP rear camera and a 135-degrees wide paired up with an 8MP camera. For selfies and video calling it features an 8MP front camera.

LG G5 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and is powered by a 2,800mAh removable battery unit. The smartphone weighs 159 grams.

As far as connectivity goes, LG G5 packs in 4G LTE, Wi- Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC.
