The Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates finally rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge early this week. As expected, the updates came out first on Samsung flagship smartphone users in its home country in South Korea. Normally, the US, as its biggest market, comes in right after.
But for some reason, users of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in Poland got the Android 6.0 Marshmallow ahead of their American counterparts.
Apparently, the T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge got the software update in Poland before it reached the US. However, it is not much of an issue to American users because the important thing is that the Marshmallow updates have finally arrived, notes the Android Community.
They have been waiting for the rollout of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow since last month after the Korean tech giant made an announcement late last year that the latest Google mobile OS shall come to their flagship and new devices in January and will eventually roll out to their smartphones and tablets between one year and two years old the following month.
When the Marshmallow updates did not come to the flagship smartphones of Samsung last month, users become agitated, thus putting more pressure on the Korean tech company to finally release it, which it apparently did early this week.
Consumer consultant guide
Meanwhile, Sammobile published a consumer consultant guide for Android 6.0 Marshmallow for users of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The document is a Powerpoint that details the new features, their functions, and some comparisons with the old Android versions.
Its main objective is to present the key differences in the look and functionality between a Galaxy S6 and a Galaxy S6 Edge running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and those running on older versions of the mobile OS.
Basically, however, the major changes will be the ones that Google already announced when it launched the Android 6.0 Marshmallow in November last year including more control on the runtime permissions, new Doze mode, App Standby mode, and better battery life.
Also specified are dynamic audio and video rendering, MIDI protocol supporting, and management of the audio device and searching for connected devices.
Users can also open links right inside the messaging app through the in-app browser, the Edge screen gets new functions, and the lock screen has a few minor interface changes, notes Sammobile.
The Powerpoint has 25 slides in total. Although it is a long read but owners of Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will find the information interesting and helpful.
Price cut on the Galaxy S6
With the impending launching and arrival to the market of the Samsung Galaxy S7, the latest flagship of the Korean tech giant, in the next few weeks, it is already expected that prices of the current flagship, the Galaxy S6, will start dropping.
In fact, Amazon is already offering an unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 at a discounted price of $478.96 with free shipping, which is about $200 off of its original price when it hit the retail markets in April last year.
With an unlocked Galaxy S6, the consumer would not be beholden to any wireless carrier wherever he is in the world.
It is probably the worst time in the world to buy the latest and greatest gadgets since smartphone makers all over the world are already gearing up to unveil their next-generation devices at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 to be held in Barcelona, Spain on February 22 to 25.
But it is definitely the best time to pick up current flagship smartphones because their prices are surely on the downward trend, in anticipation of the arrival of their respective successors.
