Facebook Says Investigating 'Reports of Speed Issues' With Android App

Users of Facebook's smartphone app are being warned that it could be slowing down phones and munching its way through a huge chunk of battery life.

Did you recently buy a fancy new flagship Android smartphone with a capacious battery onboard only to find that you're still getting relatively poor battery life?

The company did not acknowledge the battery drain issues that were reported alongside by users, or that the Messenger app was also affected.

If reports are to be believed, social networking giant Facebook's official mobile app and its Messenger app for Android are said to be draining the batteries.

"When Facebook turned out to be one of the more egregious resource hogs, I uninstalled it to see how things improved".

For some time now, Facebook has been known to get into hot water because of their Android app. Users have been complaining how they are having performance issues on their smartphones.

Deleting it causes other Android software - i ncluding the Android OS itself - to use up a lot less battery. So while Facebook didn't look like it was using that much power, it was actually just being displayed elsewhere in Android's statistics.

A Facebook spokesperson has confirmed the issue, citing that they are looking into this and will keep users posted.

'We are committed to continuing to improve these issues'. During the tests, it was observed that other apps installed on Facebook and Facebook Messenger free mobile phones launched 15% faster than in those with the Facebook apps.

He 15 separate apps viz. 20 Minuten, Kindle, AnkiDroid, ASVZ, Audible, Calculator, Camera, Chrome, Gallery, Gmail, ricardo.ch, Shazam, Spotify, Wechat and Whatsapp, using DiscoMark benchmarking app (available in Google Play) and documented the findings, leading other reddit users to test other devices.

In October previous year, Facebook's iOS app came under fir e for similarly sapping battery life, but Facebook issued a fix for the problem in an update.

Apple Shares Slumped As iPhone Growth is SlowingAs a result, the company produced record earnings per share of $3.28, whereas analysts had expected $3.23, on average. Overall, the company reported revenue of $75.9bn (£53.04bn) and net quarterly profit of $18.4bn (£12.86bn).
