With the Galaxy S7 due for release in the next few weeks, at least according to the general consensus of opinion, it is not surprising that more information is seeping out about this flagship smartphone. And the latest snippet of data that has emerged regarding this forthcoming mobile release is the suggestion that the Galaxy S7 will deliver some pretty spectacular video-related performance.
The Galaxy S7 is largely expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress, which begins this year in Barcelona on February 22. Considering this expectation, it is extremely likely that Samsung has largely finalized the features that will appear in the Galaxy S7 internally.
Samsung Galaxy S7 vast video capacityAnd with this in mind, Eldar Murtazin, who has an excellent record of predicting smartphone features, functions and specs in the past, has suggested that the next Samsung flagship will be capable of over 17 hours of continuous video playback. Not only will this smartphone have outstanding video capabilities, but it will also deliver this 17 hour quotient at what is it described as "full brightness". Although this term can often be left open to interpretation, it certainly suggests that the Galaxy S7 will be an outstanding video producer.
It is not clear how Murtazin was able to acquire this information, but it should certainly be taken seriously considering his track record.
With regard to the 17 hours figure, it is important to note that this number is based on whatever methodology Samsung utilizes in order to rate its own smartphones. There can often be a divergence between such figures and that which people experience in the real world. But what we can do is compare the existing Galaxy S range to the figures suggested by Murtazin, and this enables us to see that the 17 hours figure becomes rather plausible.
Past performanceThe Galaxy S6 is rated at 13 hours of video playback according to Samsung figures, while the Korean corporation ranks the recent Galaxy Note 5 at 15 hours. This means that 17 hours of video is certainly feasible, even though it does represent a significant percentage increase over the last generation mobile. With Samsung also likely to increase the battery size of the Galaxy S7 somewhat over its predecessor, achieving this level of video output is certainly possible.
Other factors that could also contribute to stellar video performance are improved and more efficient Super AMOLED display technology, and an improved Exynos 8000-series processor. It is important to note, though, that it has been widely reported that Samsung will revert to the Qualcomm Snapdragon in the Western marketplace for this next generation handset, so it will be interesting to see whether this leads to performance deficits in this version of the mobile.
Samsung is also expected to bump up the RAM in a Galaxy S7 to 4GB, while further optimized TouchWiz under Android 6.0 Marshmallow, could have contribute to the improvement of video performance.
Spec leakWhile many people are still wondering precisely what will be included in the Galaxy S7, there has already been a massive clue widely distributed among the media. An image from a Samsung event, taken by what is claimed to be a Samsung employee, has seemingly leaked many of the specifications for this device well ahead of schedule.
So it is expected that Samsung will retain the Quad HD display that was included in the current generation of Galaxy S6 based on this image. This may be something of a disappointment for fans of Android devices, as it was hoped at one time that Samson could possibly increase the resolution of the device to 4K. This claim was particularly intensified by the fact that Sony recently enabled its Xperia Z5 with 4K capabilities, and the ultra-high definition technology is rapidly becoming more mainstream.
However, it is still expected that Samsung will delay Introducing 4Kresolution into its smartphone range until the release of the Galaxy Note 6 later this year. The tablet series has become associated with high-spec performance, and it seems the ideal platform for Samsung to test out this demanding new screen resolution.
The leaked image also indicated that Samsung will produce a 5.1-inch model of the Galaxy S7 when it is ultimately released. This would suggest that the size of the display will also be frozen from previous device releases. This contradicts previous reports which suggested that Apple would slightly increase the size of the display.
BRITECELL comingAlso included in the image is the suggestion that Samsung will arm the Galaxy S7 with a 12-megapixel camera, and that indeed the innovative BRITECELL technology will be included. This new system that Samsung is adopting for the Galaxy S7 will enable low-light shooting in the smartphone to be significantly improved from previous iterations. This is why Samsung has been seemingly willing to lower the megapixel rating of the Galaxy S7, as addressing the perennial problem of photography in darker conditions could take the Galaxy S7 camera to the next level.
Elsewhere, 4GB of RAM and both the Snapdragon 820 and the Exynos 8890 chips are mentioned in relation to the device, confirming many of the expectations of analysts and industry critics.
Samsung will have high expectations of the Galaxy S7 as it attempts to resurrect its reputation in the smartphone marketplace. Although the Korean company still generates vast amounts of revenue, its profits have tumbled over the last couple of years, and the hierarchy of the company has even admitted publicly that it has made mistakes with its product range.
With Samsung being squeezed from multiple directions, Samsung certainly faces short to medium-term challenges. Samsung has struggled to compete with Apple and the iPhone, which has dominated the premium marketplace, and is also being impacted upon by affordable Android variants from companies such as Huawei and Lenovo.
Still considered by many to be the definitive Android smartphone, hopefully the Galaxy S7 can get the Galaxy S series back on track with the expectations of its manufacturer.
