BUDGET: Cheap plastic phones are better for making callsIf you're fed up with your expensive flasgship phone constantly dropping calls you might be best dusting off your old Nokia 3310.
Communications regulator Ofcom, has conducted a series of tests which reveal that devices from a decade ago are less likely to suffer issues than their more expensive modern cousins.
In fact, the test showed that some new phones need a signal nine times stronger than original mobiles to allow them to work.
According to Ofcom, the problems with premium devices could be down to manufacturers insisting on building their phones from high-end materials.
Many of the latest flasgship phones are made from metal and glass which isn't as good as plastic when it comes to grabbing a signal.

FLAGSHIP: Ofcom states some flagship phones aren't as good as budget devicesThe research was conducted in controlled lab conditions on a number of new devices although Ofcom won't reveal which handsets came bottom of the list.
Speaking to the Telegraph a spokesman said: "We tested a very small number of mobile phones, not for ranking but to understand how handsets performed in different situations. As no one device consistently outperformed the others we chose not to list the handsets."
Mobile operators are coming under increased pressure to make their coverage better especially in more rural areas where coverage is sill poor.
However, this research may prove that mobile phone manufacturers also need to invest in improving the signal quality on handsets.
