Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 has the best display of any smartphone

Samsung officially unveiled its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone a week ago. The device certainly pops on paper with top-notch specifications across the board and with reviewers no doubt putting the flagship through the paces, we'll find out in the near future just how good Samsung's latest really is.

In the interim, we can tell you that the Galaxy Note 7 features the most innovative and high performance display of any handset – at least, according to a new report from the display experts at DisplayMate.

In their testing, DisplayMate President Dr. Raymond M. Soneira concludes that the Note 7's display has the highest peak brightness (1,048 nits), the highest contrast rating in ambient light (228), the highest screen resolution, the highest (infinite) contrast ratio, the lowest screen reflectance (4.6 percent) and the smallest brightness variation with viewing angle (21 percent).

What's more, Soneira's extensive testing found that almost every display lab test and measurement shows some improvements compared to the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S7.

If you recall, the Galaxy Note 7 packs a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2,560 x 1,440 resolution, 518 PPI) Super AMOLED display with curved edges and a coating of Corning's brand new Gorilla Glass 5. It also features industry-leading technology like DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR, a blue light filter for better viewing at night, dual ambient light sensors and more.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 goes on sale August 19 in your choice of black, blue, gold or silver color schemes. We'll have our own review of the Galaxy Note 7 ready in the very near future so keep an eye out for it.
