WET WET WET: The Galaxy S7 Active is not as water tight as it should be

One of the best features of Samsung's flagship smartphones is they can take a dip in the drink.

Both the new Galaxy S7 and S7 Active are mean't to survive being taken underwater but it seems there could be a problem.

A recent test by Consumer Reports found that the Galaxy S7 Active failed a basic water-resistance test.

According to the report the S7 Active stopped working after being put in a tank that simulated the effect of being about 5ft (1.5m) underwater.

The test was carried out using two identical devices and both suffered the same soggy fate.

After being submerged for 30 minutes the display on the first S7 stopped working and was covered by green lines.

Water bubbles also appeared in its two camera lenses – the second device also had similar issues.

The Galaxy S7 is IP68-certified which means it should be able to cope with continuous immersion in water.

Speaking to the Consumer Report Samsung said it has received "very few complaints" about this issue, and that in all cases, the phones were covered under warranty.

"The Samsung Galaxy S7 active device is one of the most rugged phones to date and is highly resistant to scratches and IP68 certified," the company said in a written statement.

"There may be an off-chance that a defective device is not as watertight as it should be." The company says it is investigating the issue.

Luckily, if Samsung users do drop their phone in the drink they can always follow this ultimate trick to dry it out.
