Huawei launches flagship smartphone P9 and P9 Plus with dual camera

As of a year ago, it had reached the third place in global market share, trailing only Samsung and Apple by unit sales. Moreover, it is smaller than P9 Plus and carries major footprints of iPhone 6s. The P9 has a 5.2-inch display, but...

Underneath the hood, both devices will run on Huawei's Kirin 955 chipset, with a 2.5GHz octa-core CPU for the quad-Cortex-A72 cluster, while the quad-Cortex-A53 is set at 1.8GHz. The phone comes in two variants with a 3GB ram with a storage capacity of 32GB or a 4GB ram with a storage capacity of 64GB. There is also a 64GB variant with 4GB of RAM and both support microSD cards of up to 128GB.

The Chinese smartphone giant has partnered with German camera company Leica to develop the cameras, one of which shoots in full colour, while the other is monochrome.

What do you get when you mix a couple of dashes of Leica with a fast-growing smartphone developer, and add a splash of Hollywood glamor courtesy of actress Scarlett Johansson?

The rear camera system comprises of two 12- megapixel lenses that work together to capture fantastic images by making the most of available light. The monochrome assists taking accurate shots while the RGB one helps to pose great shots. Its field of view in 35 mm is in proportion to a 27 mm lens.

Those who could get their hands on the P9 and P9 Plus samples at the launch event lauded their camera interface. While Leica hasn't provided any hardware for the phone, Huawei has said that the overall quality is sufficient for Leica to "certify" the phone.

According to Android Authority, the phone "feels like a camera with a phone attached" and has "more camera modes... than you can shake a stick at". However, optical image stabilization (OIS) isn't there because it is not possible to stabilize both the cameras identically. Thus, OIS won't be required as.

It's USB C though, which although more advanced than the micro USB connection we're all used to, means you are now destined to carry a charger with you again until more phones have been released with the same connection. It gives it a premium y vibe and end to end display dominate the front. There is one fingerprint sensor at the back. The P9 Plus also offers dual-IC Rapid Charge, giving users six hours of talk time after a 10-minute charge.

The Huawei P9 will retail for $682 (€599) for the 3GB/32GB model and $740 (€649) for the 4GB/64GB model.

P9 will be available on 16 April in Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and the UK.

Millions Of Passwords StolenWhile this may sound like a reason to panic, reports indicate that the stolen credentials are likely compiled from older hacks . A recent survey by the Cloud Security Alliance found that stolen online account credentials cause 22% of big data breaches.
