The Samsung Galaxy S7 is almost certain to be launched by the Korean tech giant at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 to be held on February 22 to 25 at Barcelona, Spain.
The event has been the launching ground for Samsung flagship smartphones over the past couple of years and the Korean tech company would not be changing its strategy soon.
When the Samsung Galaxy S6 was launched at the MWC 2015 last year, it also came out with a bigger companion phone, the Galaxy S6 Edge.
Apparently, Samsung would like to keep Apple in good company in launching, at least, two flagships every year. The American tech giant has started it when it launched the iPhone 6 along with the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014 and did it again last year with the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus.
It was already expected that Samsung would do the same again at the MWC 2016 with the possible launching of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge.
However, it seems that instead of just two variants of its upcoming flagship smartphone, Samsung shall reportedly launch three and they would be called as the Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S7 Edge, and the Galaxy S7 Edge+, reports the GSM Arena.
Three flagships in one year
It can be recalled that Samsung has also launched the Galaxy S6 Edge+ in August last year, some five months after the official unveiling of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge.
It seems that for this year, the Korean tech company would no longer be splitting the launching of its flagships and drop it altogether.
The only caveat on the supposed upcoming move of Samsung is that the Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be barely six months into the market when its successor comes out, which is likely to eat on its already limited market.
It is also possible that Samsung may have gotten wind of reports that Apple may finally decide to drop three flagship smartphones in a year beginning this year after rumors that it would happen last year never materialized.
Based on latest speculations, Apple is intent on launching the iPhone 7, the iPhone 7 Plus, and the iPhone 7c in September this year, and Samsung would like to put a headstart over the American tech giant on having three flagships in a year.
Screen sizes and features
As expected, the main differentiating physical factor among the three upcoming Samsung flagship smartphones will be their respective screen sizes.
The base model, the Galaxy S7, shall have a flat 5.1-inch screen with no curved option. The Galaxy S7 Edge will have a bigger 5.5-inch screen but it would not have a flat screen. And the Galaxy S7 Edge+ will feature a 6-inch screen and shall be the only one in the lineup that shall have two screen options.
Reports have it that the latest flagship smartphones of Samsung shall also come in two different processor options including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and Samsung's own Exynos 8890 SoC.
Based also on its numerous leaks that have been making the rounds on the internet for months on end like some sort of a plague, the Galaxy S7 might not be the revolutionary upgrade that some are expecting from the Korean tech giant. But the smartphone, however, might likely bring back some much-loved features as well as some new and exciting ones, reports Forbes.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 lines are also rumored to feature a QHD and Super AMOLED displays, a generous 4GB of RAM, a new Samsung Britecell 12-megapixel camera, a bigger battery, a microSD card slot (which was removed with the Galaxy S6), and also waterproofing capability.
Last month, several internet tech and news sites had revealed that China's leading telecom carrier China Mobile has inadvertently confirmed the launching of Samsung Galaxy S7 when it recently made a presentation of its business roadmap in the coming months.
