Samsung has just officially unveiled the Exynos 8890, which is the company's latest and most advanced chipset. The Exynos 8890 is expected to power the two variants of the Galaxy S7 that is expected to be released next year, which would be the next flagship smartphones of the company after the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

However, a new rumor is already circulating that concerns the just announced Exynos 8890, with the rumor claiming that a different version of the chipset will be used to power another variant of the Galaxy S7.

Samsung is said to be planning a Galaxy S7 Premium Edition, a super spec'd version of the smartphone that will only be sold in the company's home country of South Korea. The rumors state that the Galaxy S7 Premium Edition will have a 4K display, along with a dual-lens camera module that is manufactured by Sony.

It is also said that the Exynos 8890 will be powering the Galaxy S7 that would be released in all markets, expect in the United States and China, where Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 will be used in the devices. The Exynos 8890 will use the Mali-T880 as its graphics processor with 12 cores, but according to the rumors, the Exynos 8890 for the Galaxy S7 Premium Edition will pack a Mali-T880 version with 14 cores.

ARM confirmed that the graphics processor could pack up to 16 cores, which would give a bit more credibility to the rumors.

The rumor's source is a post on the Weibo social network, which is not really a fool-proof source of information. A Galaxy S7 Premium Edition with 4K display and a 14-core GPU would be a great smartphone, but it is not entirely sure that the rumor is true at this point.

Samsung, however, has released improved versions of its flagship devices in the past, with the example being the Galaxy S5 Prime. This would mean that the idea of the Galaxy S7 Premium Edition is not as farfetched as some may think.
