Chinese Android OEM Huawei is all set to announce its next flagship smartphone very soon. Dubbed the Mate 8, the flagship is rumored to be announced on the 26th of this month, so there is barely a day left before it goes official. Just before the announcement, leaked renders of the phablet have been posted online. The leaked renders seem to be official press shots, so they are highly detailed and show off the phablet in all its glory. One of the leaked renders also reveals the three different colors options that the Mate 8 will be offered in – Grey, Copper, and Gold. The Gold option isn't surprising of course, seeing how almost every new flagship Android smartphone these days is coming out in a Gold color option.
The premium phablet will be made out of metal, as can be clearly seen in these leaked renders. Huawei seems to have added quite a few unique touches such as the rear mounted fingerprint scanner, metal ring around the rear camera, and accentuated speaker grilles on the bottom. The side bezels also appear to be quite minimal, which means Huawei has worked hard to make the 6-inch phablet slightly less intimidating to use comfortably.
As far as specs go, the Huawei Mate 8 isn't exactly going to wow you, but it isn't going to be a major disappointment either. The phablet will be powered by Huawei's new Kirin 950 chipset, with four ARM Cortex-A72 cores and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores. Based on leaked benchmarks available so far, the Kirin 950 is a highly capable chip and even manages to outperform Samsung's Exynos 7420 chip in certain benchmarks. The display on the other hand, won't be quite as impressive. The phablet is rumored to feature a 6-inch 1080p display, which will boast of a 368ppi pixel density. That's significantly lower than the pixel density on most Android flagships on the market currently. Other rumored specs include 3/4GB RAM, 32/64GB internal memory (depending on the variant), 16 or 20 megapixel rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera, and a large 4100mAh capacity battery. The Mate 8 is expected to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, with the company's Emotion UI layer on top.
