This Is Likely Moto’s Next Flagship Smartphone Running on Snapdragon 835 Processor

At MWC 2017, Lenovo only unveiled two mid-range devices: the Moto G5 and G5 Plus. Turns out, the company may have just given us a sneak peek of the successor to the Moto Z at the very same launch event, and it will likely run on Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor.

Back at Lenovo's MWC 2017 press conference, the company was showcasing new Moto Mods, and one of them – the Gamepad – was shown with a mysterious device. Based on the appearance of the phone, it's likely to be a successor to the Moto Z series. After all, only Moto Z devices are compatible with Moto Mods.

Although it's not known if the device shown with the Gamepad Moto Mod is the successor to the flagship Moto Z or the mid-tier Moto Z Play, it does reveal a slightly different design language. The phone's fingerprint sensor, for one, has been redesigned to look more like the ones found on the Moto G5 and G5 Plus; it still retains the same three-button arrangement on the right side of the device too.

Aside from that, Sprint also showed off its upcoming Gigabit LTE service with a "forthcoming flagship smartphone based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform." The carrier also confirmed that the smartphone in question is in fact a Motorola device. While the phone was shown to some analysts, it was covered in a case and taped over.

Going by last year's release of the Moto Z, Lenovo may just unveil the next Moto flagship phone sometime in the next few months in June 2017. It'll be interesting to see what the successor to the Moto Z will bring to the table, considering how competitive the premium segment will be this year.
