Samsung launches two high-end handsets in Galaxy A series

Mumbai: Targeting the millennials, Samsung today launched two high-end handsets in its Galaxy A series -- Galaxy A 7 and Galaxy A 5.

"The Galaxy A series 2017 is at the high-end of our portfolio and is targeted at the millennials. A lot of our flagship features are borrowed into A series but these are not priced at flagship prices," Samsung India Senior Vice President Asim Warsi said here.

The Galaxy A 7 comes with a 5.7 inch display with 3,600mAh battery priced at Rs 33,490, while the Galaxy A 5 with a 5.2 inch display and 3,000mAh battery priced at Rs 28,990, the company said.

The smartphone users in the country is estimated to be 280 million in 2017, a growth of 25 per cent this year from 220 million in 2016.

Samsung's smartphone value market share in India increased from 41 per cent in 2015 to 46.3 per cent in 2016.

"Over the last two years we have only gained and consolidated our leadership and market share in the country. Between the fourth quarter of 2014 and fourth quarter of 2016, we have gained over eight percentage share points," Warsi said.

The South Korean company has been manufacturing products suited to Indian consumers and Warsi said a lot of features in the devices in the country are not ported into the devices selling anywhere else in the world.

"We have some of our most focused initiatives in the form of 'Make for India'... Our sales is in excess of 60 per cent by value from devices which are 'Make for India' products," he said.
