At the upcoming Mobile World Congress event, Huawei is not limiting itself to the P10 and P10 Plus smartphones. The leak from Evan Blass confirmed the second gen Huawei Watch also to be unveiled alongside the flagship smartphones. The new smartwatch codenamed Leo will be retailing as Huawei Watch 2. The Huawei Watch launched in 2015 is still one of the well-designed smartwatches till date, but the Huawei Watch 2 is completely transformed into a sportier look. Another Chinese company, ZTE already confirmed to unveil its first Android-based smartwatch at the MWC 2017.
Just like the ZTE's smartwatch, the Huawei Watch 2 will also come with Android Wear 2.0 onboard. Earlier this month, Google unveiled the Android Wear 2.0 OS after delaying for quite a few months. Along with Android Wear 2.0 announcement, Google also launched the LG Watch Style and Watch Sport smartwatches running on the latest Android Wear OS. Talking about the Huawei Watch 2, it comes with all beefy specifications more like the LG Watch Sport than the Watch Style. It supports NFC and can be used for making payments with Android Pay.
It comes in Black, Orange and Gray colors, where the Black and Orange color bands come with textured finish while the Gray color variant has the speckled plain band. From the images, we can see two buttons on the right side of the bezel. There is no rotatable power button as seen on the LG Watch Sport and Watch Style. The SIM card tray can be found under the bottom strap attachment area. On the back, we can find the Heart rate sensor and the charging pins for connecting with charging dock. Connectivity options expected on Huawei Watch 2 are 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC.
