Samsung Galaxy S8 Expected To Launch On March 29

Samsung is expected to reveal two models of its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, on March 29.

According to a report from Evan Blass at VentureBeat, both models of the Galaxy S8 will feature a larger display than Samsung's Galaxy Note phablets due to the edge to edge display, which will see physical navigation buttons replaced with on-screen buttons.

Alongside technical details of the new smartphone, Blass also revealed the first image of the Galaxy S8:

The smartphones are expected to feature new processors, either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Samsung's Exynos depending on region, which are 11% faster and 20% more energy effecient than the Galaxy S7.

A QHD Super AMOLED display, measuring either 5.8-inch or 6.2-inch, will cover 83% of the front of the smartphone, with an 'edge' that curves downward on the side. Battery capacity remains similar to the Galaxy S7 at 3000mAh for the 5.8-inch and 3500mAh for the 6.2-inch.

Since there is no physical home button, the fingerprint sensor has been moved from the front to the back sitting alongside the rear camera. The 12-megapixel rear camera adds visual search functionality, while the front-facing 8-megapixel camera adds iris-scanning from the Galaxy Note 7.

Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S8 models worldwide on April 21, with prices set reportedly €100 ($140) higher than the Galaxy S7.
