Vivo XPlay 5 Smartphone With 6GB Of RAM Gets Official

The Vivo Xplay 5 Elite is a costlier, hence a more powerful version of the Xplay 5.

Vivo is all set to launch its long-rumored smartphone, the Xplay 5 in China later today. The Xplay 5 and its Ultimate Edition sibling have the same design and build but differ in processors as well as RAM. The Elite variant comes with the latest Snapdragon 820 chipset and a whopping 6GB of RAM. The new flagship smartphone has just been announced with 6GB of RAM and dual-edge curved display.

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has launched a new phone with 6GB of memory, a 5.5 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel AMOLED display with curved glass edges, 128GB of storage, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. It also includes 128GB of built-in storage and the same 3600mAh built-in battery as the Flagship Edition.

The Xplay 5 Elite has a rear 16MP (Sony IMX298) snapper with phase-detection AF and dual-tone LED flash, plus an 8MP selfie snapper at the front.

Both the XPlay 5 & XPlay 5 Ultimate Edition are build into an Aluminum-Magnesium alloy body that offers great strength to the device.

While numerous phone's specs are state-of-the-art, there are a few slightly less impressive aspects: the Vivo Xplay5 ships with Android 5.1 software, for instance, and lacks support for NFC or wireless charging.

Connectivity comes in the form of WiFi, Bluetooth and 4G+ which offers download speed of up to 300 Mbps. Another feature is a rear fingerprint sensor, and a further benefit is split-screen multitasking.

The phones go on sale in China first from March 8.

There's no word on the global availability right now, but we do hope these beauties reach other regions. It's no Xiaomi; Vivo is charging 3,698 yuan or about $560 for the base model, but you can wait for a while to save up 4,288 yuan or about $650 for that beastly version.
